ChatGPT: Connectors have become Company Knowledge - so what ?

OpenAI’s new Company knowledge feature for ChatGPT marks a useful step forward for anyone trying to connect their work tools. It brings together context from apps like Slack, Google Drive, SharePoint and GitHub — making ChatGPT far more capable of understanding your business data. And for gecco customers, it opens a perfect partnership: Company knowledge finds the information, while our AI Assistants do what you need with it.

What’s changed

In essence, Company knowledge is a smarter, clearer version of what used to be called connectors. It lets ChatGPT search across all your connected tools at once, giving you a single answer supported by citations from your own sources. Each response shows where the data came from, whether that’s a file, message or ticket, so you can verify accuracy instantly.

For the average ChatGPT Business or Enterprise user, that means you can now prepare for meetings, analyse feedback or draft plans with the most recent information drawn directly from the systems you already use — without manually jumping between tabs.

Why it matters

We’ve all been there: the information you need is buried somewhere in a maze of shared drives, Slack threads, or email chains. Company knowledge aims to fix that by pulling it all into one conversation. It’s particularly handy when you’re short on time and need context fast — like before a client call or a project update. You can ask ChatGPT to summarise recent correspondence, highlight any unresolved issues, and even point you to the relevant source files.

Because it runs multiple searches and cross‑checks details, it can also help when things aren’t entirely clear — say, when two departments have slightly different versions of the same plan. The model will show both viewpoints so teams can get aligned more quickly.

A note of realism

While this update is a big improvement (cough rebrand), it’s not a silver bullet. Company knowledge is still limited by the structure of your connected apps. It only shows information that a user already has permission to access, and when it’s switched on, it temporarily disables web search and chart creation. It’s also worth remembering that if your SharePoint or Drive is full of outdated files, you may still need to curate what you store there to get clean, relevant results. So it’s a smart evolution, but it depends on the quality of your data foundation.

How this complements gecco’s approach

At gecco, we see Company knowledge as a great companion to our AI Assistants and Core Documents. It helps ChatGPT find what’s out there, while our tools make sure what’s found is actually useful.

Core Documents act as a single source of truth — curated, accurate, and centralised. They’re not just another folder of random files; they’re the reference set that ensures every assistant works from the same trusted information. In contrast, Company knowledge searches broadly across messy systems. The two together are powerful: one provides reach, the other reliability.

Our AI Assistants then take that curated knowledge and put it to work. They’re purpose‑built for real business tasks — preparing meeting notes, reviewing CVs, drafting marketing plans, or summarising financial reports. With the context from Core Documents, they deliver high‑quality outputs without long prompts or guesswork. So while Company knowledge can locate data scattered across your business, gecco’s Assistants transform that data into action.

The best way to use both

Start by using Company knowledge to surface what’s new or relevant across your tools. Once you’ve got that snapshot, bring in your gecco assistant to build on it — whether that’s drafting a report, preparing a presentation, or turning insights into a plan. Because your Core Documents sit behind every assistant, the result stays consistent with your company’s tone, policies, and priorities.

For example, before a team meeting, you might ask ChatGPT to gather recent updates from Slack, your shared drive, and task boards. Then, simply tag your @Meeting Prepper assistant to generate a concise briefing in your company's template.

Or when reviewing customer feedback, pull insights from connected data and let your @Data Analyst assistant turn them into a structured summary ready for leadership review.

The combination gives you both speed and confidence: ChatGPT surfaces the right information, while gecco ensures it’s used effectively and responsibly.

Looking ahead

Company knowledge is a welcome addition to the AI workspace. It signals a shift toward more integrated, context‑aware tools — something we’ve championed at gecco from the start. But the most powerful results still come from having structured, well‑maintained Core Documents and assistants that understand your business as deeply as you do.

In short: use Company knowledge to find the right data, then let gecco help you make sense of it. It’s the smartest, most efficient way to get real work done with AI.
